What is kratom used for?

There is no doubt that among all the uses of kratom, the most common and widespread today is for its analgesic and pain-relieving action. Nectar Leaf’s experience has remarkably showed that the vast majority of the company’s customers who buy kratom are looking for a natural alternative to deal with their chronic and acute pain, caused by fibromyalgia, endometriosis, infections, injuries, arthritis, menstrual cramps, multiple sclerosis and so many other discomforts. In other words, instead of intoxicating themselves with remedies that have heavy side effects and high risk of addiction – especially in the case of opioids – many have discovered in kratom a tool that has given them back their well-being.

Despite its great popularity as a natural palliative, there are a significant number of clients who use kratom to manage their mood. There is plenty of stories of people who have used the plant to control their anxiety, mood swings and even depressive states and/or insomnia with success. The two most notable properties of kratom are, without any doubt, its analgesic effect on pain and the mood wellbeing mixed with general relaxation.

It is always worth remembering that behind pain and/or mood alterations there may be an unknown cause that must be studied and treated according to a serious diagnosis. It is always important to be accompanied by a doctor for any type of illness, and we strongly recommend it. Unfortunately, many doctors are not familiar with kratom, or may have superficial opinions without scientific basis about its efficacy and risks. It is precisely here that we have to find the balance between the fascinating progress of modern medicine and the natural traditional; and the great truth is that for that we are left with our own common sense, so let’s study. Knowledge is never too much.

Kratom does not have effects similar to those of recreational drugs. When used in very low doses, it even provides some energy: hence its traditional use over the centuries in Southeast Asia, its cradle: kratom, from the same family as coffee, has helped many farm workers with their hard activities, providing them with both lightness and physical readiness to endure many hours of work under the tropical sun.

Finally, there is one use of kratom that is worth mentioning not only for the immense help it has provided to some people, but also for its potential for public policies to help and recover from opioid dependence: kratom has helped a significant number of ex-addicts to opioids such as morphine, heroin, codeine, oxycodone, etc., to detoxify their bodies from these substances without having to go through the terrible withdrawal that often goes along with them. In short, the mechanism of kratom in the human body is developed by interaction with some of the same opioid receptors in our brain, and therefore withdrawal from those drugs can be managed with the help of kratom by avoiding the strong side effects.

For the time being, this blog aims to explain the basics of kratom in a simple and accessible way, and at some point we intend to include here first-person stories from some of Nectar Leaf’s customers who benefit from the properties of kratom. I found that it provided me with a much-needed sense of calm and helped me face my everyday challenges with greater confidence. Of course, everyone’s experience is different, so it’s important to do your own research before trying it yourself!
